Shots! Shots! Shots!: Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shots

Alright, I know I’m gonna sound a little “Wooey” when I talk about this— but I really am excited to share how I make some of my favorite wellness shots at home! And before you ask— no, they’re not going to protect you against the novel Coronavirus (you gotta listen to the WHO, CDC and the scientists for that!!), but they WILL help you boost your immunity, prep you for future common colds, and and make you feel better.

And so, I’ll just get straight to the point and then explain why I like it, and why it’s good for you,— here’s my little recipe to make enough Ginger Turmeric Shots to last you a whole week:

INGREDIENTS:

*okay, just know that this isn’t an exact science, you can tweak it to how you like it, but this is what works for us

  • 2 cups of Boiling Hot Water

  • 1/2 cup of Lemon Juice

  • 1/2 cup of Ginger Juice

  • 3-4 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 1/2 tablespoon of Cayenne Pepper

  • 2-3 tablespoons of Turmeric

  • 2-3 tablespoons of Honey

*Containers: I recommend reusing glass containers you have at home! I reuse my Culina Yogurt Containers, my Pasta Sauce Jars, and the smaller mason jars we have in our pantry!

DIRECTIONS:

Pretty simple— just mix all of the ingredients together, and make sure that they’re either properly mixed in, or dissolved in. Then, pour it into resuable containers in shot-sized amounts, and store them in your fridge. You could also do what we do, and store your full mix in giant empty mason jars (2 old pasta jars are perfect for this!), and then just pour the shots as you want to take them. Just make sure that you refrigerate it and drink it in a few days, because the ingredients are super fresh and most definitely will go bad.

I’m being real with you. Do not drink this after more than a week, because you will get bubble gut, and it will be a disaster. I usually drink one once a day.

See pics below for reference on how we made & stored these— and see below that to read why I love these shots and what properties they have to help you:

WHY I LIKE THESE SHOTS SO MUCH:

Okay, so first of all, I was spending an embarrassing amount of money on these before, and I feel like it was also lowkey a waste of plastic?? Don’t get me wrong— I did wash and reuse some of my old shot containers before eventually recycling them, but I just would rather make them and store them in reusable containers if I can.

Plus, they make me feel good! I drink them every time I feel a cold coming on, and they make me feel 90% better overnight. Slip this into your usual pre-cold routine, and you should be good to go! Of course, I recommend also doing other things to boost your immunity— like having a regular sleep schedule, maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, etc.

COOL BENEFITS THAT COME FROM THE INGREDIENTS OF THESE SHOTS:

  • Turmeric

    • Turmeric has these compounds in it, like curcuminoids, which carry medicinal properties that are natural anti-oxidants and also help with inflammation. Bonus history/culture points: this has been a key ingredient in Indian dishes for centuries!! My Mom puts this stuff in EVERYTHING, hahaha. • Lemon Juice

    • Lemon Juice is my favorite accent to anything! It’s great for heart health and digestive health, and is a greaaat source of vitamin C. If you want 6 more Evidence-Based Health Benefits on lemons, click here.

  • Ginger Juice

    • OOOOH I LOVE GINGER! I get nauseous a lot, and adding ginger here and there in my diet has helped me with keeping that nausea at bay. It’s my cure-all ingredient, and a supplement to most of my dishes. Ginger has natural properties that have also been used in South and East Asia for centuries. Like Turmeric, it’s got great anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This also definitely helps my muscles when I through fresh ginger in my chai after a run.

    • To get ginger juice, you can just make it yourself at home! Get some at the grocery store, grate the root, put it in a cheese cloth, and go to town squeezing the heck out of it until you get some fresh juice! We just squeezed a bunch and stored the juice in a few empty Culina Yogurt jars. Also, here’s a link to more info on ginger’s health benefits.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar

    • It’s one of my favorite natural bacteria killers! It’s also got properties that help lower blood sugar levels, and is overall pretty good for your skin! I’ve also heard that there are properties in here that are good for weight loss and metabolism, but idk, I’d look into it more before you introduce it into any routines. Here’s a link to more info on this.

  • Cayenne Pepper

    • Cayenne is one of my favorite nightshades! Just one tablespoon has this many aaaalll of this: Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Vitamin K, Manganese, Potassium, and Riboflavin. It boosts your metabolism, helps with blood pressure, and aids in digestive health! Here’s some more info on it.

  • Honey

    • Pooh Bear had a point! It’s got nutrients and anti-oxidants that help lower cholesterol, lower triglycerides, and is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory! Here’s some more info on how good Honey is for you.

Aaaand there you have it!! My recipe for my favorite wellness shots, why I love them, and why they’re good for you! I hope you like them, haha— let me know in the comments!

*Disclaimer: Making these is entirely up to you! Make sure you’re cool with how acidic these is, don’t be taking them every hour on the hour, and definitely make sure that it doesn’t mess with any meds you’re already taking or any pre-existing conditions you might have. If you’re worried that it might, that’s probably a good sign to talk to your doc.

Enjoy!
